How to catch fish in Genshin Impact

You don't need a fishing rod.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Fishing is usually a casual pastime you can expect to do in nearly any video game, and Genshin Impact is no different. Although, you don’t have to go out of your way to grab a fishing pole or do anything special. All you have to do is find a few fish splashing around near a river, and you can run up to them to collect their delicious meat. It’s not complicated like some video games can be.

You can find most fish peacefully swimming in small bodies of water. The fish you can easily acquire and hack away at with your weapons will be in more transparent blue water, not the dark blue that can cause your character to meet an unfortunate end. You want to avoid these locations. The fish should be relatively slow-moving, making them easy targets.

There are two ways to collect fish. If your character is fully immersed in the water, you have to swim next to them and pick them up as if they were an item on the ground. When you are standing in the water, you can use your weapon to attack them, forcing them to drop the fish meat, and you can quickly pick it up. Both methods are incredibly useful, although using your weapon will likely result in less fishing getting away.

You have to be careful your character is not still swimming when they lose stamina. When a character loses stamina in the water, they drown, so try to grab a few swimming near shore and then swim back with the rest of your energy still available to you.
