FFXIV Crafting Relics

How to get Skysteel Tools for Crafting and Gathering in Final Fantasy XIV

Relics for Disciples of the Hand and Land are here!
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Final Fantasy XIV‘s patch 5.25 introduced Skysteel Tools for crafters and gatherers. Much like the Resistance Weapons for battle classes, these new tools have pretty decent stats and will be upgradable throughout the rest of Shadowbringers.

Longtime Disciples of the Hand and Land will remember the tedious grind of the Supra and Lucis tools from A Realm Reborn, but these tools are far easier to acquire. The minimum stats required to obtain these are substantially lower than the original crafting and gathering relics. The hardest part of getting the Skysteel Tools is obtaining a copious amount of materials. Crafters will need to grind out a ton of yellow scrip, and gatherers will have to fire up their hatchets and pickaxes for a long grind.

Are Skysteel Tools worth the effort?

As of Patch 5.25, the answer is maybe.

Do you want a level 80 tool without having to worry about melding? Then yes, these tools are for you. If you have un-melded Facet tools, the final step of the Skysteel tools will be an upgrade. If you have melds in your Facet gear, the Skysteel tools won’t be an upgrade for you, yet. In later patches, you’ll be able to upgrade these tools further.

How to get Skysteel tools

Head over to Ishgard and take the aetheryte to The Brume and talk to the Skysteel Engineer. Pick up his quest, and he’ll send you to the Skysteel Manufactory. That’s where you’ll find Neillemard. After you speak with him, he’ll give you a Skysteel Coffer and tell you to talk to Denys. He’s inside the Skysteel Manufactory building across from Neillemard.

Inside the Skysteel Coffer is a Skysteel Prototype. Before you open it, make sure you’re on the crafting or gathering class you’d like to make the main hand for. Just like the leveling gear coffers, it’ll give you the item that corresponds to the class you’re on.

Denys, the Skysteel Tool Exchange, will tell you the requirements to upgrade your tool. There are three phases for each main hand:

For Crafters

Skysteel Prototype: Your first one comes with the coffer for starting the quest. After that, you can purchase additional main hands for the rest of your crafting classes from Denys for 80,000 Gil each.

Skysteel +1: You get this main hand for trading Denys your prototype and 20 crafted items. Each crafted item uses one item bought for 50 yellow scrips plus one regular gathered item. You’ll need to equip your Skysteel Prototype to craft these. The final items need to be of high quality.

Dragonsung: The second level of upgrades is much like the first, except you need to craft 30 items and hand them in, along with your Skysteel +1 tool.

Here are the items you’ll need:

Skysteel +1: You get this main hand for trading Denys your prototype and a giant pile of two different gathered items. You’ll need to equip your Skysteel Prototype to gather these. Some of the gathered items must be of high quality, but others do not.

Dragonsung: The second level of upgrades is much like the first, except you need to gather even more.
