Since Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey doesn’t support ultra-wide cutscenes out of the box, you’ll need to do some manual tweaks to get them to work.
Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey is a beautiful game, there’s no denying that. Its depth of content and critical acclaim has made it the fastest-selling title in the series of the current console generation. Gamers with ultra-wide displays, such as those featuring 21:9 or even 32:9 aspect ratios, will see glorious ultra-wide graphics during regular gameplay of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. However, the cutscenes will only render in 16:9 aspect ratio, leaving hideous black vertical bars on either side of your screen. This is a glaring oversight by Ubisoft, especially in the light of Assassin’s Creed: Origins fully supporting ultra-wide cutscenes.
Fortunately, there is a thriving ultra-wide community out there that has the skills to enable proper ultra-wide support for many games, including Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, if you don’t mind a little bit of hackery. Read on to find out how to enable ultra-wide cutscenes in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey.
How to Enable Ultra-Wide Cutscenes
The folks over at WSGF.org regularly provide hacks and updates to games that don’t natively support ultra-wide resolutions. The fact that Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey requires a hack to make this work is a sad statement, but I digress.
To enable ultra-wide cutscenes you’ll have to download an updated executable for your version of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. This comes with some inherent dangers, as the executable may have been altered in ways other than just enabling ultra-wide cutscenes, and it may be rendered outdated or cause problems during future updates of the game by Ubisoft. So please step lightly and be aware of the potential consequences!
The WSGF forum thread about Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey has updated executables for various aspect ratios and different files depending on whether you own the Uplay or Steam version. We won’t link to these files directly, but rather the posts in the forum thread. Be sure to check for updates as patches are released as well.
- 21:9 Uplay (1.0.2)
- 21:9 Steam (1.0.3)
- 5:4 Uplay (1.0.2)
- 5:4 Steam (1.0.2)
- 32:9 Uplay (1.0.2)
- 32:9 Steam (1.0.2)
Once you’ve downloaded the right executable, replace the one in your game’s installation folder. I suggest backing up the old version. After that, you should be able to enjoy ultra-wide cutscenes.
If you want to know how to make the edits to the executable yourself, check out this post.
