Garena Free Fire

How to play Free Fire Max

It's not quite ready for fans yet.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Garena Free Fire is one of the rising stars of the mobile battle royale genre. It’s a free-to-play shooter that is easy on the eye, packed with a variety of awesome weapons, and brings a lot of fun. It’s also a game that doesn’t require a powerful device to play reliably, meaning that anyone can pick up their smartphone and get involved.

However, there’s a new version coming in the form of Free Fire Max, and it brings a heap of improvements to the visuals and user interface to the game, meaning those with more powerful devices can experience Free Fire at its full potential. There are also improvements to other aspects, including special effects that can be triggered using special skills, hinting at an RPG-style progression system. At just under 1GB in size, it’s a big game too. There is currently an Android version being prepared, with an iOS version coming in the future.

But for those with devices with enough grunt for it to run, how can you play Free Fire Max?

For now, this new version of the game is still in development and the game is still in the testing phase, and it’s not available for fans. With the requirements being higher than the normal Free Fire, it means that phones will need to be tested by the developer to ensure compatibility. As this can take time, there’s currently no release date for the game or a date for when a beta for fans could become available.

For existing players eager to play the new one but apprehensive about continuing because of the update, fear not. Developer Garena has confirmed that progress from the standard version will be transferable to Free Fire Max, meaning you can continue as you currently have.

If you want to keep up to date with the game and when the new version is expected, you can track progress on the game’s website.
