For those who are stuck at home with the inability to leave and play Pokémon Go, you can now participate in raids from the comfort of your couch. Developer Niantic has introduced a new way for players to raid without having to be physically in front of a Pokémon Go gym.

Previously, whenever you wanted to raid, you could see one happening or about to occur at the top of player-controlled gyms. First, they start as massive eggs with a particular power-level. After an hour, they open up and become a random Pokémon that is significantly more powerful than it usually would be. It’s up to you, and a handful of other trainers, to work together to take it down. All trainers participating had to be in front of the gym to interact with it.

To encourage social distancing around the world to make it more viable for players to play Pokémon Go, there’s a brand new Remote Raid Pass. You can use them to access raids that are a reasonable distance away. However, the trick is you need to be able to see them on your map to interact with a raid. You need to zoom out on your map when the raid is happening, click on the appropriate location, and you’ll zoom in on it to see what Pokémon it is, and how powerful it is, and you can raid with it as you usually would.

If you want to do these with friends, you and your allies need to see the raids from your GPS. Up to twenty trainers can work together to take down a raid Pokémon. Any remote raid you participate in will count towards any research-related tasks you may on your account. As time goes by, those who us a remote raid will have reduced power compared to those who are physically present for a raid, so you can’t rely on them forever.

The Remote Raid Pass will become available soon in the Pokémon Go store. They will first be available in a bundle for 1 PokéCoin, and later for 100 PokéCoins.
