The Iron War Axe is an exceptionally helpful weapon that you can utilize in combat against the many hungry creatures in the dark. It’s also a good thing to break apart any wooden items you find along the way. Here’s what you need to know about how to unlock the Iron War Axe recipe in Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria.

Where to Find The Iron War Axe Recipe in Return to Moria

There’s only one way to unlock the Iron War Axe. You’ll have to do it by finding the shattered statues that you can track down by exploring Moria. Because Return to Moria is procedurally generated, we’re unable to share the exact location of these statues. They’re going to be different each time you play through the game, based on the seed of your world. However, we can share what they look like and what tools you’re going to need to repair them.

The broken dwarven statues in Return to Moria will only have their bottom halves showing. When you approach them, you’ll have a chance to repair them using 10 Stone. However, you can only repair these statues if you have the Iron Hammer item in your inventory. The Iron Hammer is an item that you can use to repair broken down statues and damaged buildings that you can find in Moria. You’ll have a chance to build an Iron Hammer in your Field Crafting menu as you progress through the tutorials, and you loot Iron Ingots for the first time. You’ll need at least 2 Iron Ingots and 4 Wood Scraps.

After you have an Iron Hammer in your inventory, explore Moria to find these broken dwarven statues. During my playthrough, these were not too far from the initial starting camp at the beginning of my Return to Moria playthrough, making it easy to track them down. Thankfully, you only need to repair two of these statues to unlock the recipe.

Once the Iron War Axe recipe has been unlocked on your character, return to your forge to craft it. You’ll need to find 2 Iron Ingots, 4 Wood Scraps, and 2 Hide Scraps to craft it.
