How to use Threads of Fate to try all covenants in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands

Try before you buy with no remorse.

You can level one of every class available in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands and still have slots leftover for more. As captivating as the story and cutscenes might be, you may not always want to see them each time. That’s why Blizzard introduced the Threads of Fate system, which allows you to focus on other things to gain experience and bring your character to Level 60.

Usually, freely swapping covenants comes with a harsh penalty that takes weeks to pay. However, if you’re playing in Threads of Fate mode, this is not the case; in fact, there are two ways you can hop back and forth among Night Fae, Revendreth, Necrolord, and Kyrian Sanctums.

Technically, you don’t actually have to choose a covenant. If you skip the quest called Choosing Your Purpose, you’ll pick up all the appropriate covenant benefits when you enter a world zone or dungeon related to that same covenant. You won’t gain any Renown if you go this way, but it’s a quick and dirty method to see how each covenant benefits you inside a battle.

If you commit to a covenant during Threads of Fate, you can switch among them with no consequences. Once you’re ready to try out a different house, talk to the respective covenant NPC’s inside Oribos. They will give you the same warnings about abandoning a chosen covenant, but unlike the normal way of playing Shadowlands, you won’t be persona non grata if you return to a house you previously occupied.
