This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Crucible, Amazon’s upcoming team-based, free to play shooter, will pit you against other players, and the environment, in a combination of PvP and PvE. The game is due to release on May 20 and will be available on Steam. If you are wondering if the game will be coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, then there is some bad news.

At the moment, Amazon has not hinted at a potential release date for consoles, and the game will be launching only on PC on May 20. This doesn’t mean that the game will not be coming to those platforms at all, it just means that for now, at least, if you want to play the game, you might need to wait a while for it to show up on your platform of choice.

In Crucible, you will get to pick from 10 different characters, each with their own weapons and abilities, as you will take on other teams in an attempt to fight monsters. As you play, you will be able to invest resources in your characters, the more successful you are on hunts, the more powerful you will become. You can also get these important resources by killing other players, giving you plenty of reasons to engage with your enemies.

Crucible was first revealed all the way back in 2016, and it seems the developer has been hard at work on it ever since, hence the sudden surprise of a May 20 release date. The game will launch with three modes. Heart of the Hives is a 4v4 mode that sees both teams racing to fight a boss. Harvester Command is an 8v8 mode that will play out like a Domination match, as you seek to control different Harvesters and keep them out of the hands of the other team. Finally, Alpha Hunters pits 8 teams of 2 players against each other in a battle for dominance.

You have all your abilities and weapons available from the very start of the match, with a large part of the gameplay boiling down to the tactical decisions you need to make when it comes to using them. What makes the game interesting is that you will decide on your upgrade path before the match begins, changing how your character fights in different ways.
