Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is going through a revamp as it transitions to a free-to-play product. You’ll no longer have to purchase the title, but with that comes a few sacrifices. One of which may include Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout being taken off Steam, just like Rocket League. Is this the case, however? Find out below.
Can I play Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout on Steam?
If you already own a copy of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, you will be able to play the party battle royale on Steam. However, if you haven’t purchased the game on Valve’s platform, you may be out of luck. As of June 21, 2022, the Steam listing of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout will be removed, and there will be no free-to-play option available on the platform. Instead, you’ll need to switch over to the Epic Games Store or a console you currently own like the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, or Nintendo Switch. Thankfully, there is crossplay, so you can play with any of your buddies, no matter what console or service (like Steam) they’re using.
Why is Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout leaving Steam?
Epic Games has a history of taking popular games, purchasing the company behind them, and then releasing the title as an Epic Games Store exclusive. Rocket League is a major example of an Epic-owned game, where new players would have to get on that gaming platform to play it. Thankfully, you can still play Rocket League on Steam if you purchased the game before the switch; Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout will hopefully be the same way.
With Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout on the Epic Games Store, the publisher does not need to share the profits with Steam, leading to more income in the long run. However, those who purchase content on the Steam version of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout will force Epic to give Valve a percentage of the revenue.
Season 1 of the new era for Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout will begin on June 21, 2022.
