Is there co-op multiplayer in Subnautica? Answered

There's a trick!

Subnautica is an open-world survival action game where you explore an alien ocean planet that you crash-landed on. As you try to navigate the planet, you have to be mindful of not only your resources but also the life that swims around you. Some of the creatures are harmless but others pose a danger to you. Due to how vast the game is, it opens itself to being explored by multiple people. So, does Subnautica have co-op multiplayer?

Right now, there is no way to play multiplayer natively in the game. However, there is a free mod available for PC players called Nitrox. Currently, the mod works for the Epic Game Store, Steam, and Windows versions of the game and will allow for players that have the game any either of these platforms to play with each other.

How to install Nitrox

  1. Download Nitrox from the official page.
  2. Unzip the Nitrox file wherever you would like.
  3. Right-click on the Nitrox Launch and run it as administrator or else it won’t work.
  4. In the Nitrox Launcher, double-check in the Options that Game Directory is directed to wherever Subnautica is located on your PC. The program should do it automatically.
  5. Start your server. You can do this by going to the Server tab in the program and hitting the blue button that says “Start Server.”
  6. Hit the “Play Multiplayer” button.
  7. You’ll be taken to the title screen of the game. Hit the Multiplayer button.
  8. If you’re the person hosting the server, hit the button that says “Connect to Local.” Anyone connecting to the server will hit the Add Server IP and enter the Server IP Address.
