Footage of an AAA Harry Potter RPG has leaked online. Here’s everything we know about the Harry Potter RPG including potential titles and developers.
In the early hours of yesterday morning, shaky footage of what seems to be a AAA developed Harry Potter RPG was leaked online. There’s been no official confirmation that it’s a real game yet, but it’s a lot of effort for something so well produced if it is merely a prank. Check out the footage below for yourself and see what you think.
Who’s behind the Harry Potter RPG?
To be frank, since there’s been no official confirmation of the game, we don’t know much for certain. There are some very obvious clues to various aspects of the game though. For example, the original video uploaded to YouTube has been taken down by Warner Bros. Entertainment Interactive. In the Reddit thread, somebody pointed out that they may just be claiming against the sound/music being copyrighted. The problem with that is Warner Bros. Entertainment Interactive is the software division for the company, so it’s highly unlikely they were just claiming against the audio.
As for the developers of the game, it seems like Rocksteady may be behind it. They’re owned by Warner Bros. Interactive and have been quietly working on something for a while now. They’re also a British studio, and for a Harry Potter game, that would make sense. Their previous titles are the famed Batman Arkham series, which is one example of them taking an established franchise and successfully making a triple-A title.
According to Eurogamer sources though, Rocksteady’s yet-to-be-announced title isn’t this Harry Potter RPG. So who else could be behind it? Avalanche Software is another studio who have recently been bought by Warner Bros. Interactive, and their last title was a Cars 3 film tie-in back in June 2017. They’ve also had job postings for the studio that required “deep understanding of British culture and grammatical presentation,” along with knowledge of “gaming narrative and branching storytelling, particularly in the realm of RPGs.” Avalanche’s next project was also described in these same postings as a “large-scale console game project” and triple-A sized.
What is the Harry Potter RPG called?
Am told this is from a yet to be announced RPG currently titled Harry Potter Magic Awakened, although other titles including Magic Forever are also in the mix. Replying to Variety’s article on the subject, BBC News reporter Lizo Mzimba – who is known to be a huge Harry Potter fan – speculated on two potential titles. He said it would either be called Harry Potter: Magic Awakened or Harry Potter: Magic Forever. In the same tweet, he also said that this isn’t the only Harry Potter game in development and that more are on the way. Whether they’re sequels to this one or of a different genre entirely isn’t known.
What do we know about the game itself?
In the now taken down video, the description was as follows:

“Discover fantastical beasts”… that sounds very similar to Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, the other film set in the Harry Potter universe. The sequel for that comes out next month, so perhaps we could see an official reveal for the Harry Potter RPG around the same time? According to Eurogamer, the game is still at least a year away from launch though so don’t expect to see a release until the latter half of 2019 at the earliest. We can’t wait to see what our Patronus looks like.
