The answer, however, is quite simple. So, how exactly do you get past it?

Press the ZL and ZR buttons on your controller or Joy-Cons while next to the trashcan, and it’ll cause Luigi to burst up into the air and knock everything around him out of the way during a small animation.

The trashcan will move, and you’ll be free to continue on your journey. Just a word of advice, this move is used a lot through the game to solve puzzles and kill ghosts, so don’t forget about it.
