There are Tower platforms in Mortal Kombat 11’s Towers of Time mode that need to be bought with in-game currency. These platforms are character specific; not all towers are unlock right away. The old way to unlock these towers used to take a long time, but now it seems as if NetherRealm Studios has fixed it considerably.
Mortal Kombat 11 appears to have made the purchasable tower platforms in Tower Mode more tolerable.
In Mortal Kombat 11 there is a mode called the Towers of Time where there are a set of floating rocks that you can pick from. Each rock has a series of towers on them; the towers are a succession of matches against CPUs. After beating each tower, you are rewarding with some prizes, like in-game currency and cosmetics. These rocks are called tower platforms
The top left platform starts with no towers. You have to spend Koins to fill out that platform with towers. The towers that you buy for this specific rock are character focus, meaning each of the 25 playable characters has their own specific set of towers that you can purchase. You can only play on these towers as the character you bought it for. You can also switch tower platforms with different characters.
To get the first of these character-specific platforms you have to pay 25,000 Koins. Once you pay the Koins, five towers will spawn on the rock. These first five towers you buy are labeled as stage 1 and after you successfully beat all of them you can then buy the next stage. The proceeding stages are always more expansive; stage 2 for a character costs 50,000 Koins. Each stage has its own tower platform.
In all tower platforms, including the character specific platforms, not all towers are made available to play on immediately. Generally, all but one or two are locked from the player.
In most cases, to unlock these other towers you usually have to beat the tower(s) that are made available at the start. For example, in one platform only one of the towers is made available from the start. To unlock the second tower, you need to beat the only tower that is made available. Once you beat the first tower, the second tower will then unlock. To unlock the third tower you then need to pass the second tower, and so forth.
To unlock the towers in the character specific platforms that you purchase, you have to do a little more than simple beat the towers in succession. In stage 1 of the character specific platforms, you need to spend Souls to unlock the third stage, as well as beat the second tower.
The old way to unlock the last two towers in these purchasable platforms was a big pain.
To unlock the fourth tower in character specific towers, not only did you need to beat the third tower, but you had to also land 50 uppercuts with that specific character you are playing as. For instance, if you are playing through Scorpions towers, to unlock the fourth tower, you would have needed to do 50 uppercuts with Scorpion. You can accomplish these tasks in other towers though.
To unlock the fifth tower you had to do 50 throws, and sometimes it would be difficult to get a good opening to land throw on an opponent. Both of these towers require a lot of grinding to unlock.
Stage 2 of the purchasable platforms had even more ridiculous requirements. To unlock the fourth tower in stage 2 you needed to perform 75 Fatalities with the specific character. To unlock the fifth tower you needed to perform 75 Brutalities with the same character.
Fortunately, you can always switch platforms with different character tower platforms, and none of the platforms will ever lose progression. The platforms will even keep track of how many uppercuts, throws, or Fatalities you perform even after being switched out.
When I logged into the game today, I realize the requirements of unlocking these towers have changed. You no longer need to land 50 uppercuts or 50 throws to unlock the fourth and fifth towers in character specific platforms. You now just need to do 25 uppercuts and 25 throws.
In stage 2 you now only need to perform 10 Fatalities and 10 Brutalities to unlock the fourth and fifth towers in character specific platforms.
Mortal Kombat 11 was heavily criticized for how grinding it is, especially when it came to unlocking these towers. Fortunately, this fix will make it much easier for players to finish all these purchasable tower platforms.
