The Mortal Kombat series is famous for its over-the-top gore and violence. But it’s also famous for something else–secrets. The now beloved character Reptile was originally a secret fight in the very first Mortal Kombat, and he made his playable debut in Mortal Kombat 2.

Mortal Kombat 11 Unlockable Characters

So, that begs the question on the latest release in the now 27-year-old series: Are there secret or unlockable characters in Mortal Kombat 11? Well, the answer is yes and no.

The base roster of Mortal Kombat 11 consists of 24 characters (25 if you include Shao Kahn who is a pre-order bonus). All of those characters have been shown, except for one. Netherrealm Studios has been secretive about this character’s inclusion, but this character is on the roster as soon as you boot up the game and he/she must be unlocked.

Who is the mysterious 24th character? It is none other than Frost, the female ice ninja who originally appeared in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Though, she is not the Frost that you remember from then or even from her brief cameo appearance in Mortal Kombat X.

Frost's new, more cybernetic look in MK11

To unlock Frost in the game, you must simply clear chapter four in the story mode. Then, she’ll be available to play in any mode. You can also purchase her instead if you do not plan on playing the story mode.
