The PC version got a surprise launch, so will a console release follow suit?
Risk of Rain 2, the sequel to the popular 2D roguelike survival game of the same game, released a few days ago in a surprise release for fans of the series.
Since then, thousands of player shave dropped won to the unforgiving world in hopes of surviving for as long as they can, picking up a host of weapons, abilities, and little robot friends along the way. While PC players have already sunk in thousands of hours combined into the title, console fans have been left behind. So when is the game coming to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch?
It’s hard to say as the developers of the game haven’t officially commented on the possibility of the game on consoles, but it could be incredibly likely. The first Risk of Rain title is available to purchase on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch right now but as Risk of Rain 2 is still in early development, there is no telling when, or even if, the title is set to come to consoles in the near future.
The game still has plenty of bugs to fix, characters to add, and new items to discover as well as secrets to explore and bosses to fight, so it’s not like players on PC don’t have plenty to do in the time being. If you are a console player though holding out, it might be best to get the game on PC for the time being. There is no harm to restarting the game in the future on the console after all as it is just damn fun.
Edit April 1: Hopoo Games has confirmed a plan to release the game on consoles when the game releases its 1.0 update. Thus, we won’t be getting our hands on the game until its official release. The PC version of Risk of Rain 2 even has Switch game files hidden in its data files, hinting at the possibility of the game already being tested on a Nintendo Switch system.
