Making sure you can speak to an enemy faction at the negotiation table can improve your campaign or drive you to the point of having only settlement left with a small army to your name
An important aspect of Total War Three Kingdoms is to know how to approach different factions in the game and meet them at the negotiation table. If you’re smart, witty, and wise, you’ll take away from a great deal and benefit your faction greatly. However, you may find yourself in a tricky situation, and getting forced into choices, you may not find beneficial, for the time being. It’s essential to handle this balance and remain cautious of what you say agree to, or turn down. Here are some key factors to remember when entering negotiations.

Understanding the Other Faction
When you’re looking at the opposite faction, there are several pieces of information you want to understand every time you see it. The first is the small bar next to the faction’s name. This bar indicates how you would stand against you in a straight fight. If the arrow is pointing down, they’re weaker than you, and you’d probably beat them. If it’s pointing up, you’re speaking to a superior force so you may not want to make them angry or act aggressively towards them unless you’re confident you can win.
The second thing is their overall attitude towards you. While you can immediately see what the face means based on how it looks, and on the symbol’s color, but you can hover over it for additional details. You can learn how much they hate you, or like you, based on this number. You’ll want to use this number to gauge how likely it is they’re going to accept a deal from you or not.
The last thing you need to glance over quickly is their money and food information, which are indicated by a gold coin and rice bowl, respectively. It’ll show how much more of that particular resource you have than they do, or if they have more. These are tactical pieces of information to have when going into the negotiations with the respective faction.
Finding the Sweet Spot
Whenever you enter a negotiation with an enemy, it’s important to note what’s both parties receive from the deal. When it first pops up, anything on the left side of the agreement is going to be what you’re doing for them. These choices vary from paying the enemy faction a certain amount of food or money for a set amount of turns, or you’re trading over a piece of equipment for them to perform a specific task. Sometimes, you can look at these quick details and know immediately what you’d like to do, which is reject it or accept it. If you decline it, the faction may not be as kind to you in the future, based on what they asked from you.
Additionally, if you’d like to try to modify the deal, you can always go further into the negotiation and attempt to rearrange the agreement. When you do this, it’s important to note the numbers on the bottom of the screen. The small green ones attached to the labels are positive benefits on your behalf to that faction. The faction likes those things and is increasing the chances of the deal to happen the more you add to it. However, there are also negative aspects, such as them wanting a sure thing from you or how they feel about you as a whole. If they don’t like you, they’re going to be tough to convince to alter their deal.
You’re going to see the total number of positives and negatives on the bottom of the deal underneath the “propose deal” button. If you’re in the green, even if this is a 0.1 number, you can propose the agreement, and the enemy faction will accept it. If it’s in the read, you’re going to offer up more things or change the deal in some manner to convince to go along with it. You can marry off people in your court, give them individual items, followers, give them food or money for a series of turns, or give them a large lump sum up front.
Do whatever you can to change the deal to your favor, and remember to watch the little numbers.
