What is the failed to check for updates error in Genshin Impact?

What's the problem?
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Genshin Impact is an online game that does require updates to the game client, and you will probably not be able to connect to the game if you do not have an internet connection. For some players, they’re running into the issue of the game, saying that their client failed to check for updates, causing an error whenever they attempt to log on and play. There are many ways you can tackle this error and get to the bottom of what’s causing the issue.

The primary thing you may want to do is restart the Genshin Impact client. You want to exit out of it on your task manager, or close out of the application entirely, depending on if you’re playing it on the PlayStation 4 or on a smartphone. Once it’s gone, attempt to load it back up again, or even visit the application’s digital store to see if you manually need to apply the update. Some smartphones may have to do this, and you can turn on automatic updates after this, so you don’t have to manually try it again.

Genshin Impact does check for updates every time you load into the game, so the problems could be connected to a server issue. You may have to wait a few minutes and then attempt to jump into the game after a little bit of time because many people could be trying to connect all at the same time.

A good way to work around this issue is to directly go into the files on your computer (you want to look for Genshin Impact Game), go to that folder, and then look for the Genshin Impact application, and launch it. It bypasses the launcher window, allowing you jump straight into the game.

If there’s no available update and you’re still running into the same problem, your next step might be to uninstall the application to see if you’re missing some files. It can take a great deal of time for smartphone users to download the game, so you probably want to place your phone down or keep it connected to a charge for everything to install a second time appropriately. Hopefully, these clear up your problems and enable you to continue playing through the game once again.
