What to do at a shiny golden hole in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Bury your fortune.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

While exploring your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you will occasionally come across a bright dot of light on the ground. Digging there will get you a bag of Bells, but the hole will also be glowing a bright golden color. If you are wondering what to with it, you can plant money there and grow yourself a nice financial windfall.

After you dig up the money bag, just put the money “away,” so that it goes into your pocket. Now, standing near the hole, open your inventory, navigate to where it shows your money, and click on it. You will have the option to create money bags of various sizes. Make the one you want, then bury it in the hole. This will cause a money tree to grow over the next few days.

Now, we haven’t been able to grow enough money Trees ourselves to have precise maths, but so far, it seems like the Money Tree will give you back three times the amount that you bury. Each bag should contain the same amount Bells that you buried, so burning 1000 Bells will get you 300 Bells in return, which is a fine investment. We would suggest burying as much as you can each time, to maximize profits.
