What’s the Deal with Fortnite’s Purple Lightning and Cube?

Strange things are happening in Fortnite as purple lightning has destroyed a large area of the desert and spawned a bouncy cube. What the heck?

Something strange is afoot in Fortnite. After the start of week 7 of season 5, a huge rift opened above the desert and began spewing purple lightning at the vegetation in the area. One by one, the cacti were destroyed until eventually, a giant purple cube appear in their place.

Shortly after noon on Friday, a giant purple cube appeared on the map.

It appears to be harmless, though quite bouncy. PC Gamer has discovered that shooting it is ill-advised. As of this moment, we’re still unsure what its purpose is, but Epic Games clearly has something special planned for everyone.
