When will Mega Evolutions come to Pokémon Go?

When are Mega Evolutions coming?
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

The big talk surrounding Pokémon Go right now is the fact that a select few of them will be receiving the ability to Mega Evolve. A Mega Evolved Pokémon will be significantly stronger than its standard form, be in its Mega Evolution for a limited time, and requires Mega Candy and Mega Energy to evolve. We know quite a lot about them before their release, but do we know when they’ll be available in the game?

Beyond saying exceptionally soon, we don’t have an exact date. However, we can expect Mega Evolutions to arrive sometime on or after August 27. The other features surrounding Mega Pokémon, such as Mega Raids, Mega Candy, and Mega Energy, will also be available. The prominent new feature will be Mega Raids. Players must work together to take down a Mega Pokémon to receive Mega Energy and Mega Candy for completing it. The faster you take it down, the more Mega Energy you receive by the end.

It’s important to note your Pokémon will not remain in its Mega Evolution forever. While in that state, you cannot trade it to other trainers, place it as a defensive Pokémon at Gyms, or use it in the Pokémon Go battle league. These may change in the future, notably using it in the battle league. Still, Niantic is watching the community to see how Mega Evolved Pokémon perform with players. Once you see a Mega Raid is available, get ready to transform your Pokémon. The first ones that can Mega Evolve include Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, and Beedrill.
