As it stands, Call of Duty: Warzone allows access to three different size squads for those that are looking to play with friends, or go at it solo. Currently, you can access and play Warzone solo, as a duo or as a trio. This offers more flexibility than the likes of Apex Legends, which includes a normal queue for trios but has timed events for solo and duo queues, but less so than PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which has flexibility for up to four players.
The experience in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode Blackout included queues for solo players, duos, and squads of up to four players. This could likely mean that the decision to limit Warzone to three players per team could be a design decision, though the size of the map and the increase of 50 players per match, increasing the stress on the servers, may also have factored into their decision.
However, does that mean that Warzone will get squads? Activision will likely be using the launch of the game to test out the stability of the servers and investigate the possibility of adding a fourth spot or more to a squad if servers can handle the load.Â
The maximum number of players in a server at 150 also works perfectly for teams of three, as it means that there can be exactly 50 teams across one game. Though once again, if the servers are capable of handling more, Activision may decide to increase the numbers to allow for teams of four with more ease.
Currently, there’s no official word as to whether Warzone ever will receive an update allowing squads of four or more. Still, we would expect some experimentation with the idea as the game matures and improvements are made.Â
