Ahead of Battlefield (2018) official reveal, a new rumor states that Battlefield V is going to be set during WWII and it will feature loot boxes.
A new leak hints at the next Battlefield is set in the World War II, reportedly titled Battlefield V. Originally, the game was supposed to be named Battlefield 2, some sort of sequel to Battlefield 1, but eventually, DICE opted to something different and more coherent with the rest of series.
According to GamesBeat, the decision of leaving the modern setting behind was took at EA and DICE “several years ago”, supposedly well before the announcement of Call of Duty: WWII from Sledgehammer Games.
The reset of the series with a World War I proposition was quite popular, with the 25 million players milestone announced last month and the second place in the best selling 2016 titles (only behind Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare).
The only Battlefield game with a World War II setting was Battlefield 1942, the first game in the series, which was released in 2002. That’s without counting the 1943 spin-off, of course.
This new rush of information – which includes the return of loot boxes with cosmetic items, such as in Battlefield 1 – seems to rule out once again a Battlefield: Bad Company 3, and the rumor a Vietnam-set game of the series was in the making.
A reveal trailer is expected to drop around June’s EA Play event.
