“We don’t believe in our success until we deliver it. We have very powerful, smart, capable competitors bringing great products to market and we need to win – that means we have to work harder than the next guy.”
During a recent interview, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has provided a statement about how he anticipates Red Dead Redemption 2 to perform in terms of sales and critics appreciation.
According to Zelnick, the idea at the company is that, while the game is clearly expected to be great both when it comes to quality and reception among the fans and beyond, there’s no way you are successful before you launch a game.
Therefore, the publisher can’t say how good could Red Dead Redemption 2 do in terms of how many copies it sells, especially considering that it will face the ‘competition’ of a giant such as Grand Theft Auto V.
“We’re running scared too. I think a healthy degree of paranoia and insecurity about releases is probably a good thing. I’m fond of saying that arrogance is the enemy of continued success,” Zelnick told GamesIndustry International.
“We don’t believe in our success until we deliver it. We never claim victory until it’s occurred. We have very powerful, smart, capable competitors bringing great products to market and we need to win – that means we have to work harder than the next guy.”
He added that “I don’t think this is numbers exercise around attach rates – I think this is a question of how phenomenal is the product and does it capture people’s attention and imagination? The answer is clearly it’s going to do well, but it’s very difficult to say how well. It’s going to be a big success, but it’s a question of how big?”.
Red Dead Redemption 2 releases on October 26 for PS4 and Xbox One. Here are the five things you need to know before you buy it.
