“This is the first time a Nintendo Entertainment System console has led in monthly unit sales since NPD tracking began in 1995,” revealed analyst Mat Piscatella on Twitter.

“PlayStation 4 was the highest unit selling hardware platform with an MSRP over $99 in the June 2018 tracking period,” he added.

Overall, the market has witnessed a big growth this June in comparison with the same month in 2017, as hardware sales were up 52% year-over-year ($350 million).

NPD claims it’s thanks to Fortnite, whose success is prompting many to go and buy a new console only for it, promotions around E3 and NES Classic Mini being once again available.

Hardware also saw a growth when it comes to the overall spending across all the first six months covered in 2018. Spending was up 21% to 1.7 billion, numbers that show again how this generation has still something to say.

Portable hardware, finally, grew 7% in comparison with the previous month and 2% in regards of June 2017, despite the business is now less flourishing than ever due to Nintendo Switch.
