According to Capcom’s Platinum list, DmC Devil May Cry has now become the second best selling game in the action hack ‘n’ slash franchise.

The best selling game still remains Devil May Cry 4, quite distant in terms of units sold, but the news here is that DmC has now outsold Devil May Cry 3, although only by 100,000 copies.

Here’s the full list of the titles in the series together with the units moved:

  • Devil May Cry 4 – 3M
  • DmC Devil May Cry – 2.4M
  • Devil May Cry 3 – 2.3M
  • Devil May Cry – 2.16M
  • Devil May Cry 2 – 1.7M
  • Devil May Cry HD Collection – 1.1M

It’s interesting to note that DmC Devil May Cry has obtained quite a good success in terms of sales despite being one of the most controversial games in the franchise.

It’s a spin-off, one that won’t leave a mark on the series in terms of story, but still people appreciated it a lot and recently even Capcom praised Ninja Theory’s work on it, after rumors around wanted the title hadn’t been appreciated by the company (indeed, it was never mentioned when Devil May Cry 5 got announced).

Devil May Cry 5 will be released next March, so it’ll be rather interesting to see how it performs and if it manages to get higher than DmC and Devil May Cry 4 anytime soon.
