Indeed, when you do anything before talking to John, Abigail, Jack, and Sadie, you risk to lose them for the entirety of the game outside of scripted missions.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Bug Makes Characters Disappear, Patch Soon

Rockstar Games has acknowledged the existence of the bug and, via its support, claims to be doing all the proper work to fix it.

Anyway, the developer reports that in case you meet the glitch those characters should be returning in Chapter 4.

On top of that, the studio has also provided a quick workaround so that you don’t step into the bug anytime soon.

“We understand your concern regarding the missing storyline characters in Red Dead Redemption 2 Story Mode,” says Rockstar Support.

“Please be informed that, if the missions “Polite Society” and “Valentine Style” are failed, restart the mission instead of using the “Retry Checkpoint” option. If you have already completed the mission after using the “Retry Checkpoint” option, they will not be present until the start of Chapter 4. We hope you understand.”

So, be warned that there’s this issue in the game and that the software house behind it is going to publish a patch soon to get rid of it.

RDR 2 is now available on PS4 and Xbox One.
