Campo Santo, the studio behind Firewatch, has been acquired by Valve.

“The 12 of us at Campo Santo have agreed to join Valve,” Campo Santo said. “We will maintain our jobs as video game developers and continue production on our current project, In the Valley of Gods.”

Campo Santo is a small studio based in San Francisco that’s best known for its debut game, Firewatch, a first-person mystery game that follows the story of a man who took up a job as a fire lookout after his wife develops advanced early-onset dementia.

The studio was made up of individuals who worked for Telltale, a company known for its story-driven adventure games, and Klei Entertainment, who made classic indie titles Don’t Starve and Mark of Ninja.

Campo Santo’s current project, In the Valley of Gods, is still in production, but it will now be a Valve title. It’s unknown at this time if the title will expand to other platforms or be a PC-exclusive game in the Steam store.

The game is a single-player adventure title set in the Egyptian desert. Players will need to uncover treasure in pursuit of a discovery that can bring them fame or fortune—or leave them for dead if they make a wrong move.

In the Valley of Gods’ release date is unknown right now—but Campo Santo released a teaser trailer for the title in December 2017.

It seems like Valve plans to start shipping more games soon, and the acquisition of Campo Santo could be the first step in this new process.
