The game looks very similar to the BGS things we’ve played during the last few years, and the future isn’t apparently holding any surprise.
When it comes to longer term titles such as Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI, indeed, it doesn’t look like the graphics engine is going to change even though years might pass before those games launch.
“For Fallout 76 we have changed a lot,” Todd Howard told Gamestar this year. “The game uses a new renderer, a new lighting system and a new system for the landscape generation.
“For Starfield even more of it changes. And for The Elder Scrolls 6, out there on the horizon even more. We like our editor. It allows us to create worlds really fast and the modders know it really well.
There are some elementary ways we create our games and that will continue because that lets us be efficient and we think it works best.”
So, it’s clear that, rather than simply reboot all the technology at one time, Bethesda Game Studios is working to iterate on the current tech, making it better and better with every release.
While F76 is a pretty looking game, it’s obviously being offered with the usual chunky animations and all the visual glitches you might expect from a Bethesda title.
Is this going to change in the future? Probably not.
