BioWare has shared the first Dragon Age 4 teaser trailer at The Game Awards 2018, revealing the details about the composition of the development team.
Dragon Age 4 is set to be a follow up to 2014’s Inquisition, as the teaser revolves around the Dread Wolf Solas, an Elven God who successfully disguised himself as the companion mage Solas in the previous installment.
Interestingly, the game moves not from the core title Inquisition but from it’s final DLC Trespasser, where Solas revealed himself to the Inquisitor and his plan to restore ancient elves.
Mark Darrah, executive producer, has revealed in a blog post that the team has been built from some of the veterans of the series and BioWare.
The game is said to have been in the making “for quite a while now”.
“While we won’t be sharing any details for now, I can tell you we have been building a new team around a core of Dragon Age veterans, people I’ve worked with on Dragon Age, Jade Empire, and some of whom I’ve worked with since the Baldur’s Gate days.
While I have been focused on Anthem, the rest of the team has been hard at work exploring ways to push BioWare’s storytelling to the next level.”
Matthew Goldman, 18 years in BioWare serving as art director on Baldur’s Gate 2001 expansion among the other things, is the creative director.
In his message, he hinted at the fact he loves party-based combat, colorful companions and romances, so hopefully that and more is in the game.
“Making players into heroes of their own stories has been my real-life quest since Baldur’s Gate.
Over the years I’ve taken on increasing challenges: building vast living worlds, devising fun party-based combat and illustrating fantastic stories. Now, I’m honored and excited to continue BioWare’s rich legacy of colorful companions, romance and epic choices in my favorite fantasy franchise.
We’ve gathered our strongest team yet and are venturing forth on the most epic quest ever!”
Dragon Age’s next iteration doesn’t have an official title yet nor a release window, although reports claim it’s coming in three years.
