NetherRealm has announced that the Nintendo Switch port of Mortal Kombat 11 is being developed by Shiver Studio, a video game development studio focused on gaming for mobile, tablet, and PC.
Mortal Kombat 11 producer Trevor Traud has confirmed that NetherRealm Studios is not working on the Nintendo Switch version of the game. The studio is developing the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Mortal Kombat 11, and they have roped-in Shiver Studios to develop the Nintendo Switch port of the game. Shiver Studios is not new to the gaming industry. Previously, they have developed games for mobile, tablet, and PC.
Speaking with our friend at GameRevolution, Trevor Traub said:
“We’re actually not developing it in house; it’s being developed by Shiver Studios. They’re developing it at the same time as us, so it’s a co-development. There is no lead SKU.”
The good news is that Trevor used the term “co-development”; a clear indication that there won’t be too much of differences regarding game content on PS4/Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
Mortal Kombat Armageddon was the last Mortal Kombat game that released on Nintendo console (released way back in 2007 for Nintendo Wii). If Mortal Kombat 11 performs well on Nintendo Switch (sales performance), then there is a possibility that NetherRealm might ask Shiver Studios to port some of the best Mortal Kombat games like Mortal Kombat 9 (the fantastic reboot of the series) and Mortal Kombat X to Nintendo Switch.
Mortal Kombat 11 will release on April 23 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Enjoy the latest trailer of the game below.
