In a podcast with Major Nelson, Phil Spencer shared more information about Microsoft Studios, and hinted at the “first-party organization” getting “bigger” soon.

This isn’t the first time Spencer discussed the possibility for Microsoft to complete more acquisitions, and it looks like 2019 will be a good year under this perspective.

“The capability that we have now as a first-party organization I do think it will continue to get bigger, but what we have right now is so different than the position we’ve been in in the last five years, which is awesome,” said Spencer.

Interestingly, he also mentioned that Rare is working on a new game outside of Sea of Thieves, and that he saw what Playground Games is currently working on (it’s an open world action RPG, rumored to be a Fable reboot).

“I’ve seen what Ninja Theory’s working on next and what their pipeline looks like… I saw what Playground’s working on next, I saw what Rare is working on next and their continued growth and success with Sea of Thieves.”

We’ve reported a few rumors last year about which studios Microsoft could be acquiring next, and among the others we have Ready at Dawn, Turtle Rock Studios and IO Interactive.
