Cuphead, which was an Xbox One Exclusive, is coming to the Nintendo Switch this spring.
Nintendo’s Nindies Direct had a surprise reveal of Cuphead coming to the Nintendo Switch.
Cuphead is a run and gun shooter/boss rush video game that evokes the cartoons of the 1920s and 1930s. The entire game is hand drawn and took several years to make.
You star as the eponymous Cuphead, who is just a boy with a cup as a head, and his brother Mugman. They made a deal with the devil, and need to collect the “soul contracts” of all the beings that own him. They accept, and they go on a silly adventure throughout the 2D animated landscape.
It was released as Xbox One Exclusive back on September of 2017. It was well-received and sold very well. It was one of the few independent games exclusive to the Xbox and was one of the most prolific in that console’s lineup. Many assumed the series would remain an Xbox (and PC) exclusive.
This is what makes today’s announcement of Cuphead coming to the Switch all that more surprising. Though few would argue that Cuphead shouldn’t belong on the Switch, many would have thought that Microsoft would have a tighter grip on Cuphead.
Apparently not, as Cuphead is coming to the Nintendo Switch on April 18. You can pre-purchase the game for the switch today.
