While we’re all eagerly waiting to learn when the game is actually releasing, quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz has shared his biggest inspirations for the work he’s been doing for years now on Cyberpunk 2077.
Interestingly, Tomaszkiewicz namechecked some of his biggest inspirations, without shying away from the question and perhaps hinting at what we could be anticipating for the much-awaited title from the makers of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
The quest director mentioned Vampire Bloodlines, which fun enough is having a sequel next year, and Deus Ex as the main inspirations, and then also briefly talked about the importance of The Elder Scrolls for the entire first-person RPG genre.
“For me part, personally, Vampire: The Masquerade, in terms of what an RPG is in first person, and the way in which its non-linearity is built into the gameplay and dialogue. We are all gamers, and we enjoy different genres, but personally, I would say Vampire Bloodlines. Specifically because it is the perfect example of a first person game and an RPG that I personally enjoyed.
(…) Of course, then there is The Elder Scrolls, although it is more difficult to compare it with the that because it is fantasy. And I would also say the Deus Ex franchise, especially the original Deus Ex. That had a great impact on me as a developer and player back when I played it for the first time many years ago. And what I really liked about that game was completing the missions in many ways. It was not only based on dialogue decisions, since you also had the things that were on the map and its different points of entry that allowed you to get into buildings, as well as elements that opened different paths in the story.”
One of the most important things with CD Projekt RED is that the guys over at the Polish studio are maybe the biggest fans of video games in the industry, so they love what they craft and try to make it the best for their supporters.
The fact that the developer is coming along the lines of such big role-playing games is only good news now, and perhaps that’s what CDPR was referring to when it recently said that Cyberpunk 2077 is going to be different from what we’ve seen after Gamescom last year.
