During the presentation of fiscal year 2018/2019, Capcom has released few interesting pieces of news about some of its major intellectual properties, such as Resident Evil and Devil May Cry.

As we know, the developer and publisher has released new iterations for those franchises in the first couple months of 2019, and claims to be very satisfied with how they performed.

Indeed, we’re told “sales and profits have exceeded guidance,” so they went way beyond expectations in terms of copies sold for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Specifically, Resident Evil 2‘s remake has managed to ship over 4 million units in around three months, which is a huge result.

We were expecting great performances considering how beloved the franchise is, but consider that it’s a remake of an older title and that before RE7 people were being rather skeptical about Capcom’s chances to revive the IP.

Devil May Cry V released early May and also proved to be a great seller for the publisher, having shipped more than 2 million copies and “successfully reinvigorating” the brand.

This case was being a bit more delicate, as DMC5 is the first game of the series from Capcom itself in a long while, as DMC Devil May Cry was handled by Ninja Theory and didn’t meet a great reception from core fans.

In other news, Monster Hunter World keeps being a, err, monster with 12 million units shipped across all the platforms. This won’t ever stop surprising me, since it’s the first game in the franchise that for some reason manages to go mainstream.

It’s releasing the Iceborne expansion this September and has just launched a crossover event with The Witcher 3 on PC, so it’s looking more alive than ever.
