In a recent blog post, A Song Of Ice And Fire author George R.R. Martin has revealed that he has been consulting on a video game being developed in Japan. Martin has been keeping very busy lately, but one of his many projects is a video game being made in Japan.

And me? I’m still here, and I’m still busy. As a producer, I’ve got five shows in development at HBO (some having nothing whatsoever to do with the world of Westeros), two at Hulu, one on the History Channel. I’m involved with a number of feature projects, some based upon my own stories and books, some on material created by others. There are these short films I am hoping to make, adaptations of classic stories by one of the most brilliant, quirky, and original writers our genre has ever produced. I’ve consulted on a video game out of Japan. And then there’s Meow Wolf…

Rumors about a collaboration between Martin, and From Software leader Hidetaka Miyazaki, have been doing the rounds for a while. Now his blog post has added more fuel to the fire. Rumors say the title has been in the works for three years now and maybe getting a reveal at the upcoming E3 2019.

The game is said to be an open world adventure, featuring horse riding. We will apparently be able to visit different kingdoms in the game and gain new powers and abilities by killing the leaders of those kingdoms. It is not thought that the game has anything to do with Game of Thrones, the TV spin-off of the Song Of Ice And Fire series which recently wrapped up on HBO.

The game is rumored to be published by Bandai Namco, although Activision took care of distribution for From’s most recent game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice in the west. If the rumors are true, and the game is announced at E3, this could be a massive win for whatever press conference gets to announce it first, as it is sure to dominate headlines.

Update: According to an article from the fine folks over at Gamesradar, the game is apparently called Great Rune, and will be based on Norse mythology. It is shaping up to be a pretty good time for fans of Norse mythology if this is true.
