Gameplay trailer for Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat 11 has been shown off, and plans concerning the rest of the DLC has also been revealed.

The Kombat Pack is a DLC pack for Mortal Kombat 11 that was available at launch. The pack would include six DLC characters, along with additional skins for characters in the game. Additionally, it will also give buyers 1-week exclusive access to the DLC characters. Shang Tsung, the evil sorcerer and main antagonist from the first Mortal Kombat game, was announced before launch as the very first DLC character.

A model of Shang Tsung already exists in the game. In the Krypt Mode for Mortal Kombat 11, Shang Tsung, in his elderly form, greets the player when they first enter the mode. He will then commentate on the player’s progress as he traverses the Krypt. However, no gameplay footage of Shang Tsung fighting has ever been shown beforehand.

Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, promised earlier in the week that, if all goes to plan, the first details on the DLC will be revealed this same week. It appears that everything went according to plan because a new trailer featuring Shang Tsung was revealed on Ed Boon’s Twitter.

Despite Shang Tsung appearing as an old man in the Krypt Mode, the trailer focuses only on his younger appearance. Since the game features multiple skins for all the playable characters, it can be presumed that old man Shang Tsung will be an alternate skin.

In the trailer, Shang Tsung uses telekinesis and soul-stealing powers to fight. He is also capable of shape-shifting into other Mortal Kombat characters that aren’t in 11. He is only shown transforming into the ninjas of past games. He is shown turning into Rain, Ermac, and Smoke during normal gameplay. When he lands a Fatal Blow on his opponent, he transforms into classic versions of Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Noob Saibot.

His fatality in the trailer is particularly gruesome. He forces a soul into his opponent’s chest. The soul then begins transforming from within the opponent — first a separate set of arms sprouts from the sides of the opponent. Eventually, Kintaro, the four-armed giant from the second game, explodes out of the opponent.

That’s not all; the trailer ends with the names of three more future DLC characters. The first one is Nightwolf, the Native-American fighter who conjures magical weapons to fight. The second is Sindel, the mother of Kitana, who is known for her long hair and her loud voice. Finally, the third name is none other than Spawn. Spawn is a comic book superhero that is a hellspawn; he wears a black suit with a red cape. He has a cult fan base, and he has been heavily rumored to be in a Mortal Kombat game for years.

The trailer promise that there will be two more guest characters coming in the game. The trailer also reveals that Klassic Ninja Skins for Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Noob Saibot will be available to early access players on June 18.

Shang Tsung will be available to download for early access players on June 18 as well. Presumably, gamers who don’t have early access will get him a week later.
