Final Fantasy VIII is finally get re-release on modern consoles.
A remaster for Final Fantasy VIII was revealed at Square Enix’s E3 2019 press conference.
Final Fantasy VIII is the only Final Fantasy game from the PlayStation 1 generation not to get a re-released in modern consoles. The reason is complicated; while many fans believe it is due to a lack of interest in the game, it may have happened because of hardware complexities and limitations.
VIII was noticeably absent when a good chunk of older Final Fantasy games had already received re-releases for the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. It led to some reasonable funny memes online, even though it was incredibly heartbreaking for fans of the original Final Fantasy VIII.
In the last few days, there was rumor suggesting a Final Fantasy VIII will be getting a remaster for modern consoles.
These rumors proved to be accurate as Square Enix announced that there would be a Final Fantasy VIII remaster releasing later in 2019.
The trailer that Square showed off at their E3 2019 conference began with the words “At Long Last,” a playful comment towards how fans reaction of not seeing Final Fantasy VIII on modern consoles. “Liberi Fatali,” the iconic music track from VIII, plays at the start until the game’s battle theme replaces it. The conference then switches to gameplay footage for the remaster, ending with the release window for the game.
The Final Fantasy VIII Remaster is going to release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam in 2019.
