One of the most anticipated games from Microsoft missing at the Xbox E3 2019 media briefing was sure enough Age of Empires IV, especially if you consider that other new titles for PC such as Microsoft Flight were announced at the event.

Age of Empires IV has been revealed back at Gamescom 2017, and since then we have not received any official intel on it, so we don’t know what it looks like and which is the state of the project as of now. Luckily enough, though, we’ll learn more about that rather soon.

“We’ll talk about it more this year. Relic’s great as a studio, we’re making good progress with it. One of the things I loved about our show [on Sunday] is the things that we didn’t show,” said Phil Spencer, executive vice president at gaming at Microsoft.

“I want us to make sure we’re doing that in the right context. The thing I would say is we’ve been incredibly impressed by Relic’s capability. Obviously, they’re somewhat local to us being in Vancouver, and we know the studio. They did the best job of, ‘here’s what we think Age should go to.’”

When saying so, even though that’s not confirmed yet, it looks like Spencer might be interested in bringing the title at Gamescom in August, which is exactly the place where it was initially announced a couple of years ago.

In the meantime, Microsoft has announced Age of Empires II Definitive Edition, and that should be it for this year, so there’s a chance it finally launches at some point in 2020.
