Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Mode Could Happen Post Launch

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Cyberpunk 2077 has been rumored to be featuring a multiplayer component of sorts in the past and, while it has not been confirmed yet, CD Projekt RED is not ruling out this idea and is doing some work in order to see what it could be done in the future of the title.

There’s a rumor going around that Cyberpunk 2077 might feature a multiplayer component. Although, CD Projekt RED has already confirmed this detail that they do not have immediate plans of a multiplayer experience. However, they’re also not going to shelf the idea and are playing around with the concept.

Pawel Sasko, the lead quest designer behind the game, spoke with Eurogamer about how the team has been focusing on making the best single-player experience possible, on meeting the game’s April 16, 2020, deadline.

“We’re not working on multiplayer; our sole focus is single-player,” Sasko told Eurogamer. “We’ll do that, then we’ll see. We’re not saying no [to multiplayer], but we’re not saying yes. If something does happen, it will be post-launch, and that’s as much as I can say right now.”

“I mean we’re known for good stories, amazing characters, choices, and consequences. So this is something for sure we’d be going with if anything happened regarding that. We’d avoid anything that’s not that. If we do it, it’ll be our style.”

So, at least for now, players should not expect any multiplayer when they jump into Cyberpunk 2077.

However, the door is still open and who knows what can happen in one year. The success of the game could determine if the team wants to devote resources to crafting a unique, exhilarating multiplayer experience, or if they’d prefer to remain focused on the game’s single-player journey. For now, we do know it’s going to happen post-launch, if at all.
