Age Of Mythology Is Not Being Left Behind, Says Microsoft

The Xbox owner has built a studio called Age of Empires just to work on the franchise, but there’s a chance more could be on its way in the future, as AoE creative director Adam Isgreen has shared that the label is not leaving Age of Mythology behind, neither.

Over the last few months, we’ve witnessed a resurgence of the Age of Empires (AoE) franchise, which Microsoft is putting a lot of resources into to manifest. They’re working on a couple of remasters called Definitive Edition (the second chapter is coming this year) and even a brand new game by Relic Entertainment releasing next year.

Xbox built a studio called Age of Empires to work on the franchise, but there’s a chance more could be on its way in the future. AoE creative director Adam Isgreen shared that the label is not leaving Age of Mythology behind, either.

“It’s great to see how much love there is for Age of Mythology, ’cause I love it too – it’s more of a… less accurate history,” Isgreen told Eurogamer. “It’s super loose, people just have fun, and I love that too.” He also outlined what Microsoft is going to do for the existing games, and what could come in the distant future.

“So we’re going to be doing a patch for Age of Mythology [Extended Edition] soon, because there are some exploits and some things out there that we know players would love us to get rid of, so we’re going to be doing that,” Isgreen said. “After we get through the Definitive Editions for the three here, and 4 is rolling, then we’re going to look back and see what we can do with Myth. Because I love Myth, we’re not going to leave it behind; we’ll figure out what to do with it then.”

We think this is just right — Age of Empires is more a thing for people loving history, while Mythology has happened to let players have more fun while handling their empires and stories. As it was back in the days, there could be room for both the franchise and hopefully Microsoft will do something about that soon.
