Cyberpunk 2077 has been through a lot in the last couple years, from disappearing to flooding us with all a series of information that is leading to the release on April 16, 2020, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

CD Projekt RED has been very quiet over the last few years about the project, considering they were doing severe design changes in comparison with their previous game (The Witcher 3 being the third-person, this going first-person, to name one), and now we’re getting news about it almost every day.

In an interview with VGC, creator of Cyberpunk Mike Pondsmith has shared that in the past he had lots of opportunities to make a video game out of the property, but it never happened because developers and publishers didn’t care that much about it — something CDPR does.

“That is why we went with them,” said Pondsmith. “This game has been optioned for years to many, many different studios. But what I saw in CD Projekt was that they really cared about it and the things that were important to us were important to them. So I knew it was in good hands.”

Interestingly, he also revealed that “CDPR are fans: they play the [pen and paper] game. Many of them grew up playing the game. So this is like a bunch of guys who watched the Star Wars movies as kids and then got a chance to make a Star Wars game: they would do the best damn job they could.”

As they usually say when licensing stuff, it’s a work of passion and a labor of love for the Polish developer, and we’re hopefully going to see this reflected in the core title as soon as it releases next year. This could also lead to something more in the franchise in the future, although claims of three titles already in the works were rectified.
