We’ve already reported about multiple games taking advantage of the boost mode on Nintendo Switch. This mode was introduced a few months ago so developers could access all of the resources the console has at its disposal to improve game performances.

Among the titles that have implemented it, we found a select roster of first-party games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey both use it to improve the initial loading times. There are only a few third-party games, such as Mortal Kombat 11, that make use of it. Now we have one more.

Beenox has announced that a brand new patch coming to the Switch this week will bring the title up to the version 1.05. It’s going to introduce the ability for Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled to access the boost mode to include faster loading times.

The developer revealed that loading times are getting better on all the platforms, including PlayStation 4 (1.07) and Xbox One (1.0.1.1). That’s something we’re glad to hear since that was a massive issue with the game. The Nintendo Switch will have some additional work to help fix the situation over there since it was even more troubling than the other platforms.

Here’s the full changelog as shared by Beenox:

All Platforms

  • Loading time improvements on all platforms
  • Stability fixes when playing online
  • Adjustment to track selection frequency when choosing tracks in online matchmaking lobbies
  • Fix for various track lap exploits
  • Adjustment of global cooldown for power-ups on all players (prevent timeclock/warp orb spamming)
  • Fix to lobbies not repopulating properly after player quits
  • Fix to position shuffling and rewards at race end
  • Various other issues

Nintendo Switch Specific

  • Improvements to loading times using Boost Mode

To be clear, the boost mode on Nintendo Switch is quite different from the PlayStation 4 Pro. On the PlayStation 4 Pro, you can activate or deactivate the mode based on your preference, as it allows you to use the additional power of the platform to unlock framerates without waiting for the developers to apply a patch for that specific purpose.

On the Switch, the mode is something developers have to activate on their end so their game can take advantage of the CPU and GPU, granting additional benefits like faster loading times or reduced impact of the dynamic resolution option.

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is now available on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. There’s no word of a PC release.
