No details for this new collaboration yet.
The Pokémon Company has announced a new Pokémon game, and it is due to be co-developed with Chinese Mobile gaming developer TiMi Studio Group.
There are currently no details as to what the game is or what it will entail. The announcement, broken by Serebii, confirmed that a game based on Pokémon would be developed collaboratively by The Pokémon Company and the Chinese studio, who have developed several hit mobile games, including MOBA title Arena of Valor and Call of Duty Mobile.
While both games are not as popular in the West, they are hugely successful in China, which might be the motivation behind bringing them in to crack the mobile market in China.
TiMi Studio Group is owned by Chinese mega-publisher Tencent Games, who have a stranglehold over the publishing of a large chunk of the video game market within China. In recent years they have been looking to expand into other studios elsewhere, and have stakes in, or wholly owns a number of developers and publishers, including Ubisoft, Supercell (Clash of Clans), Riot Games (League of Legends), Paradox Interactive, Epic Games, Grinding Gear Games (Path of Exile) and Activision Blizzard. It’s also assisted several indie developers in the Chinese launch of their games.
Currently, it is not clear as to the details surrounding the game, or even if it’s going to be released in the West. While not confirmed, it is very likely to be a mobile game, and their pedigree in MOBA games on mobile might suit a potential Pokémon MOBA.
