In an interview with Fortune, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella further discussed the partnership with Sony, which came up a few months ago. The business involves cloud gaming, and PlayStation will take advantage of Azure datacenter based-technology for the future of its game streaming service.

Nadella said that the deal is “all driven by Sony,” that chose Microsoft after “they looked at who are all their partners that they can trust.” This comment seemingly confirms that Sony has spoken with Amazon Web Services before reaching the Xbox maker. “It turns out, even though we’ve completed, we’ve also partnered,” he added.

When thinking of why Sony decided to get in touch with Microsoft for such a deal, the Nadella had words about it. He said, “basically and fundamentally the fact that we have a business model in the areas that they’re partnering with us, where we’re dependent on their success.”

In the same interview, Nadella promised that the company “will do the best job for them, whether it’s in cloud or in A.I. or what have you, in order to make sure that Sony can succeed with their own IP creation.” Rather than selecting information to provide them and not the full picture on cloud gaming, for example.

Cloud gaming is becoming a real focus in the next-generation console war. With PlayStation and Xbox starting to work on cloud gaming platforms and Google joining the party later this year. It’ll be interesting to see what this evolution means for gaming in the future.
