CD Projekt Red and CMON have combined their might to work on a new card game set in the universe of the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077. Cyberpunk 2077 – Afterlife, will launch next year. The game is designed by Eric Lang, designer of the forthcoming Bloodborne boardgame and games such as Rising Sun, and the Song of Ice and Fire tabletop game. Andrea Chiarvesio, the designer of Arcanum, also shares design duties.

In Cyberpunk 2077 – Afterlife: The Card Game, players become Fixers. Fixers are the databrokers and masterminds in Night City who recruit cyberpunks, equip them with gear, and send them out on missions. But nothing’s free in Night City. Players need to balance between what they want and what they can actually afford. Using an innovative drafting mechanic and special dashboard, players must decide which cards they want to buy, and which to sacrifice for funds in order to purchase new ones.

The game will have a card system. Successful missions raise your Street Cred, with surviving team members ranking up and becoming Veterans. And exactly release date and price point are unknown, but CMON has a lot of experience in this area as they also handled design and production duties for the Bloodborne card game.

It appears to be a pairing that makes a lot of sense, the announcement details Lang’s love of the Cyberpunk universe that the game is based on, while CD Projekt Red appears to have a strong love of board and card games running through the studio. As a huge fan of board and card games myself, this is excellent news for fans like me.

Cyberpunk 2077 – Afterlife: The Card Game will be released in 2020.
