The Outer Worlds Targets Fallout, BioShock And Borderlands Fans

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

We’ve turned quite used to the idea that The Outer Worlds is coming from the original creators of the Fallout franchise, Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, but it remains to be seen whether this game is going to appeal the very same audience of that beloved series.

We’ve become accustomed to the idea of The Outer Worlds is getting developed by the original creators of the Fallout franchise, Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky. However, we have yet to see if this game is going to have the same appeal.

According to Obsidian’s narrative designer, Megan Starks, that’s the target. The game is intended to be what Fallout supporters should love, and also Borderlands and BioShock‘s, to a lesser degree.

“I’m a fan of Fallout for sure, as well as Borderlands and BioShock, and I love this game too, which makes me feel confident. If you like those types of games, then I think you will enjoy ours,” Starks told VGC.

She added that The Outer Worlds is ready to become a franchise in terms of narrative. The Fallout co-creators “just have notes and notes… it’s crazy. We already have a full universe of lore, which is really nice.”

Of course, that’ll depend on the commercial success of the intellectual property, even though Microsoft is already planning on making the title an Xbox long term series for the future.

“I guess it depends on if people like the game, but we would absolutely be interested in plans like it, yeah,” Starks mentioned. “I really enjoyed making this game, so I would like to work on it a while longer. But I think first our focus is polishing up this game and getting it out the door!”

The Outer Worlds is releasing on Oct. 25, for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
