Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has just revealed a brand new mode, called Survival Mode, which is going to be a part of the Spec Ops offering.
However, there’s a catch: the mode is going to be a PlayStation 4 exclusive for one year, up until October 2020. After that date, it’ll be free to be released on Xbox One and PC (via VG247).
As you might’ve understood, this means that Xbox One and PC players may never join the mode as Call of Duty games usually have a one-year life cycle, before being replaced with a newer title in the same franchise (next year’s rumored to be Black Ops 5).
This is slightly weird if you consider that, for the first time, all the post-release content for a Call of Duty game won’t be exclusive to any platform, and as such new multiplayer maps and modes, missions for Spec Ops, will launch on the same date for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Survival is a horde-style mode that was introduced with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 back in the days, and according to Infinity Ward’s Taylor Kurosaki it represents only “1%” of the game, so the timed exclusive is not ruining anyone’s experience; at least, he thinks so.
“We do our BEST every day to give our players the best experience possible,” said Kurosaki on Twitter. “There are decisions that are above all of our pay grades that have to be considered. I understand your feelings, but this is much better than others I have seen.”
Up to you, I respect your decision. We do our BEST every day to give our players the best experience possible. There are decisions that are above all of our pay grades that have to be considered. I understand your feelings, but this is much better than others I have seen.
