Epic Games Store vs Steam is one of the toughest challenges in the video games industry ever, perhaps at the level of those huge console wars back in nineties. However, there’s always a silver lining in black clouds, or at least the developer behind the Wolfenstein franchise says so.

“Competition is good for the industry. It’s good for everybody because competition just makes us be better,” Kristoffer Kindh, senior-level designer at MachineGames, told PCGamesN on the topic, sharing a very consumer-friendly statement.

Kindh does know that someone out there still wants Steam to be dominant on the market and be the only store/client where they need to go to play the latest games on the PC platform, but that’s simply because this is “what they’re used to” – which is not necessarily the best for them.

“For myself, it doesn’t really bother me that much at all; it’s just another store for me. I just have to remember all the passwords!” he added. “The game market gets bigger, with more games getting released every day. My personal opinion is that it’s a natural growth, compared to how much game development is actually happening.”

Of course, on the most superficial level, this is the bottom line, meaning that it is true that competition makes each business better because it pushes all the players to do their best to win market shares and consumers’ trust.

It’s worth to say that most of the controversy about the Epic Games Store is due to its lack of features in comparison with Steam, and the aggressive policy on exclusives that is forcing lots of users to play under an incomplete client. Hopefully, with more time, Epic will make this right.
