We do know that Activision in-house studios take care of the franchise every year, and so next year it should be Treyarch to work on the series for Call of Duty Black Ops 5 as rumors point out that Sledgehammer and Raven are not ready for next year and should skip to the following.
Kurosaki has already shared that the studio is interested in the idea of a sequel to Modern Warfare, so the team is likely not going to explore other sub-series in the Call of Duty brand and keep focusing on the soft reboot.
“We would love to make another one of these. We have every intention of making another one of these,” he told PCGamesN.
“Have we spent much time thinking about what it could be? A little. We’ve also spent a ton of time just getting to the finish line, so yeah that is intended to get fans of the original trilogy excited and get new fans excited about what that could be.”
Of course, it’ll depend on the commercial success of Call of Duty Modern Warfare, but knowing how much Activision is invested in the franchise and how good the game has turned to be, it’s almost a given that in two to three years we’ll get our sequel ready.
