According to new leaks, the Galarian Pokedex in Pokemon Sword and Shield will only feature 400 Pokemon. It is safe to say that it this is accurate, it will be way below community expectations for the upcoming game.

Not only does the game appear to contain just 400 Pokemon, but this will also be the first game in the main series that does not allow players to bring their full collections with them. The full list of Pokemon featured in the game can be found at the link in the above Tweet.

Over the last couple of days, rumors have swirled based on leaks about the upcoming title. It was originally thought that the main campaign would give access to 400 Pokemon, with a further 232 becoming available once players had completed the story. This no longer appears to be the case.

In an interview with USGamer in June of this year, Junichi Masuda, the game’s Producer, spoke about the decision to limit the Pokedex to the Galar region only. “We knew at some point we weren’t going to be able to indefinitely keep supporting all of the Pokemon, and we just found that Sword and Shield would probably be a good point to go back and reevaluate what would be the best selection of Pokemon that appeal to the widest audience while keeping into consideration the balance of the battle system. It isn’t just going to be all-new Pokemon in the Galar region Pokedex; there’s still going to be a lot of favorites that fans will be able to bring over that they’ve adventured with previously. But yeah, it was pretty much just balancing and getting this optimal selection of Pokemon for the adventure we wanted to provide.”, he said, when asked about the decision to limit the Pokedex in such a way.

While for now, the number 400 remains a leak, and it is best to wait until reviews for the game begin to appear, this is undoubtedly some bad news for Pokemon fans out there if it turns out to be true.

Pokemon Sword and Shield will launch on Nintendo Switch on November 15.
